Qt Overload explained…

Dear Qt community,

We here at Qt Software hate to explain a joke but obviously our reference here was a touch too obscure. We have historically suffered from people being unsure how to pronounce Qt. Some say Q-T, while others say “cute”. The correct way to say it is “cute”, due to the way the letters Q + T are pronounced in Norwegian.

Qt Overload was designed to help reinforce how to pronounce Qt. We tried to spoof a website called Cute Overload, a popular site for cute things. We launched this on April 1 because we hoped that people would realize this isn’t our real community site, it’s just for fun.

Boarder Control

Springtime is here and birds are looking for a home and a mate. In my garden, I’ve a nice nest box and I’m anxiously awaiting its occupation.

Watching the Bird's home

To keep track of any interested birds, I’ve hung my N800 in the tree, with the camera facing the nest box. The web browser is also running and it is pointing to twitter. To make it easier for the birds to let their presence be known, I’ve set the input method to virtual keyboard. What’s missing is software to recognise the birds by song and appearance.

Making the web a prettier place

In a previous post we showed a mockup of how we were thinking of making qtsoftware.com cuter. Well in talking this through with our team we decided that the whole darn interweb needed to get a lot more cute and pretty.

This browser is build using Webkit and Qt.

The best part? The source code is available on our Qt Labs site.

Qt for S60 - new kitten launcher

There’s nothing Qt Trolls love more than cute, fuzzy little kittens. So to celebrate our admiration for our furry little friends, we have introduced a new application launcher into our Qt for S60 port - the kitten launcher! Each cute, fuzzy little kitten represents an application you can pick up and cuddle launch and be productive with.

Sweeter than Candy

Qt’s engineers have always kept an ear to the ground when it comes to supporting the Next Big Thing^TM in user interface styling. This time around, our resident style gurus have captured the future of the cross-platform UI — and it looks a lot like candy.

As you can see in the screenshot above, this cute style brings just that touch of class needed to sweeten up any application. It’s implemented using only a few lines of CSS-like code with Qt Style Sheets. Go ahead and try it for yourself!
