Feedback please - website redesign

March 30th, 2009 by Aron

Boy, with all this work being done on our new community site, we figured we would take a spin at making our main website, www.qtsoftware.com, look just like this site here. What do you think? Does it represent the Cute Qt Everywhere vision we have?  Let us know!

You’re joking, right? You’re really willing to make the site look like …that.. just to pursue a pun? Why don’t you go for something like “cute” graphics (like friendly clip-art style. (instead of the current very serious looking ones). Changing everything to pink is frankly embarrassing.

I was really scared when i saw this new color of Qt. The Qt-websites looked always professional, but with this new color i am ashamed when i am showing this websites to new Qt-Developer Candidates. It would be great when you change this color to a more professional style.

    +1

Pink… brrr… Qt is changing it’s target to female developers?
Btw. qt-green is the color of Qt, not pink.

I hope this is an joke of April 1st.

  5. James Pellow Says:

It appears nobody noticed its April 1st… Good one guys :)

  6. Darren Hatherley Says:

Any chance the previous posters have not noticed the date?

  7. Vladislav Blanton Says:

I honestly hope that this whole qt is “cute” thing is an april fools joke and not a Nokia market strategy.

Pink website? Current green and black colors look much better.
Don’t even think to change to pink :-)

  10. Manoj Agrawal Says:

Green looks far better than pink!! Please let it be a professional website instead of making it funny.

    rotfl ….. I think i stick to Gtkmm …

  12. You must be Windows Says:

I don’t know that I ever met people from the *nix world who were that anal. Even the most uptight appreciate a good joke.

Seriously guys, pull the rod out from your posterior…

  13. Barbie Says:

Your dislike of the color pink is an insult to Barbie dolls everywhere!

  14. Rohit Atri Says:

Aaaaaargh! Pink is so “Girlie”. Grow up! You know, grown ups can be “cute” too or should I say, “Qt” can be grown up too!

  15. Peter Leopold Says:

Sorry, “cute” is the wrong connotation and therefore the wrong pronunciation.

Perhaps the trolls think “cute” means “cool” but no. Take a look at the first
    few definitions

    http://www.google.com/search?q=define%3A+cute&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=com.ubuntu:en-US:unofficial&client=firefox-a

then ask yourself, does this describe the Qt functional spec? Hardly.
For that matter, do people who use Qt write “cute software” ?
Not really. Indeed, some of us don’t relish our livelihood being
implicated in some confused Norwegian misunderstanding of English
    connotations.

But all is not lost. Remember the 3 rules for product naming:

    1) If you see it, you can say it.
    2) If you hear it, you can spell it.
    3) It is unique enough for google to
find it on a solo name search.

All three are satisfied by Q-T.

So I say let the trolls have their inside joke.
The rest of us will heard, write, say and successfully search “Qt”.

But I agree the pink website is cute . . .
